A Noble Journey: October 2014

Our last morning at Crater Lake we received advice from the barista at the lodge. He told us several things we should see on our drive to Oregon Caves. Always ask a local for the things you need to see between "here and there" and then make it happen!

The Rogue River is 44 degrees, and flows at a rate that would fill an
Olympic pool every minute!

After our stop at the Rogue River we meandered through southern Oregon. It was Sunday, and the last game of the World Cup was being played. We have many soccer fans in our family, and they were trying to keep up with the score as we traveled. We knew that the last game would be played while we were in Caves Junction at The Chateau. The location is 20 miles off a main road. It's twisty, curvy and narrow. The kids were texting friends to get results, but we lost any type of service just as the game was going into extra time.

Though everyone was interested in the outcome of the game, our destination was such a treat, that no one seemed to mind. No internet, no TV, no distractions or disruptions. The food was wonderful, the rooms were quaint, there were folks playing guitar and singing in the lobby, and the World Cup was a faint memory!

The tour through the marble cave is a must if you are visiting. You will learn about geology, fossils, watershed, cave life and a bit of Oregon history. It is 44 degrees in the cave, so dress in layers. The cave is lit, so no need for a headlamp or flashlight.
